The Diabetic Youth Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit agency whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children, teens and families affected by diabetes. Our organization receives all of its support through donations from individuals, corporations and foundations and by charging fees for our programs. Due to the high cost of running Bearskin Meadow Camp, the fees that we charge families to attend only cover approximately 1/3 of our actual cost for each person attending. To ensure that we can continue to provide scholarships for low-income families AND to keep our fees as low as possible for all who participate in our programs, we rely solely on private donations to support our programs. We receive no funds from state or federal governments. DYF is strongly committed to operating a financially sound and effective agency. To ensure that we are operating in an efficient and transparent manner, DYF hires RINA Accountancy every year to do a complete audit of our annual financial statement. Annual audits are conducted each year to review our previous fiscal year. DYF's fiscal year runs from January 1 to December 31st. 2006 revenue figures and expense allocations are unique in comparision to prior years. 2006 revenue exceeded expenses due to donations and pledges restricted to DYF's one-time Capital Campaign to Renovate Bearskin Meadow Camp. In addition, to expenses allocated to programs, organizational fundraising and general management, 2006 overall fundraising figures also reflect fundraising costs directly associated with the renovation campaign. If we had not done the Capital Campaign, we would have continued our long tradition of spending between 83% to 87% on programs and the rest on Fundraising, Management and General of the agency.
